Raymund Marasigan speaks out on Marcus Adoro's abuse allegations and Eraserheads’ reunion: ‘It was really, really, awkward’
Eraserheads has once again hyped up fans with news of their reunion show Huling El Bimbo set to happen this December. But for the bandmates themselves, the road to a comeback was paved with some awkwardness.
Drummer Raymund Marasigan shared that the first encounter between Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, and Buddy Zabala was "awkward", but it was once again their love for music that got them through the initial silence of being broken up for twenty years.
"Obviously we are not famously close, especially in the past years," he shared. "With the four of us, it's really, really, awkward. We haven't talked. We've been distancing from each other," he shared with music news site Bandwagon Asia.
They first met up in Taguig to discuss the initial planning stages of the concert, and it was their kids and partners that made the first meeting go smoothly.
"Wala naman silang issues. Then when it was finally over after a few minutes, I said, 'I gotta go. I have a gig to play," he said. Aside from Sandwich, Raymund serves as the frontman of the band, Party Pace.
Their next meeting was for Huling El Bimbo's poster shoot and even more awkwardness ensued, but a certain Bluetooth speaker and some old tunes set their minds at ease.
"Fifty people have their cameras and phones. You're all dressed, made up. You're not a model. You don't know how to pose without a guitar," Raymund shared of the studio shoot.
He added that they weren't speaking since they were used to the silence together anyway: "The four of us are awkward together ever since—it's nothing new. We're not comfortable without equipment. We're not comfortable with each other."

Finally, Raymund whipped out his speaker and played a number of old and new songs, from IV of Spades' 'Mundo', Rivermaya to international artists like Tame Impala and Run The Jewels.
"Gumaan na. Between takes, we were talking about how to approach [the concert.] How many songs to play. What to play."
Marasigan also briefly discussed the abuse allegations surrounding lead guitarist, Marcus Adoro. Since the announcement of the reunion show, fans have brought to light the abuse allegations against Adoro by his former partner Barbara Ruaro and his daughter Syd Hartha in 2019.
While not touching on the topic specifically, Marasigan said that he would have liked to talk to Adoro privately and wished the best for all involved.
"If you're my friend, seek me out and we can talk about it privately. Publicly on social media, any statement can be misconstrued. Nobody wins."
"I hope the issue between the parties gets resolved soon. I really want to respect the privacy of those involved, and sincerely hope they all find peace of heart and mind," he added.
