Sam Milby opens up about split with Catriona Gray: 'It's been rough'

Published Mar 03, 2025 6:40 pm

Sam Milby admitted that things are still "rough" for him after his breakup with his former fiancée Catriona Gray.

On the March 3 episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, Milby was asked about how he was handling the split, to which he revealed: "Not well."

"I think every breakup is a different situation, kung ikaw 'yung nasaktan or kung ikaw 'yung dahilan ng breakup. So it depends on the situation, but I think any breakup is not easy," the actor began.

He stressed that it was "hard" to talk about his split with the Miss Universe 2018 titleholder and that it was something he didn't want to talk about in past interviews.

In the past month, he confirmed to MJ Felipe of ABS-CBN News that he and Gray are no longer together to clear up any rumors about the reason for their breakup.

"With social media now, people want to just connect so many things and believe so many things na walang katotohanan, and I felt the need to clear 'yung issue na there was no third party, and 'yung sinasabi na si Moira [Dela Torre] 'yung third party, I wanted to make that clear," Milby said.

"Sa'min ni Cat, we've always been private about our relationship, and out of respect sa kanya, I still don't feel comfortable talking about our relationship," he added.

Despite comments from other people saying he has already "moved on," the local star reiterated that it's "really been rough" for him.

"It wasn't only mag-boyfriend and girlfriend kami; we were engaged, and to have that not push through, it's been really rough," he lamented.

Milby then became emotional as he requested to drop the topic as it was a "hard subject" for him to discuss.

Both Gray and Milby were in attendance for TJ Monterde's concert early in February. Videos of the beauty queen crying during the performance of Hanggang Dito Na Lang made the rounds online.

"A woman that I still love and care about, I see a few seats away from me, is crying. Beautiful songs, and I didn't know how to react," Milby said of the moment.

"If people thought that I was comfortable, I was the complete opposite. I was not comfortable during that concert, and it's something that should be celebrated because it was a beautiful concert. My best friend was the directing, John Prats, but it was a hard situation and I was kind of frozen at the time," he added.

Milby opted not to answer on whether he was past the point of trying to fix things with Gray.

The actor previously made headlines when he said that he and Dela Torre are no longer friends, which he confirmed once more to Abunda. While he chose not to get into the reason for their falling out, he asserted that the singer did not play any part in his breakup.

"People just want to connect things na walang connection, and that's the sad thing. Sobrang daming nainiwala na totoo 'yung sinasabi ng isa," Milby said. "If there's no evidence, don't believe it. So many people are believing so many things na walang katotohanan."

Milby and Gray went public with their relationship in 2020. She announced their engagement in February 2023.

But in February 2024, they sparked breakup rumors after Gray was spotted without her engagement ring in her photos. In May of that year, her post about their engagement was no longer on her Instagram page. During Milby's 40th birthday celebration later that month, fans noticed Gray was absent, adding fuel to the breakup rumors.
