Korean singer Kim Yoon-seol dies at 27
Kim Yoon-seol, who emerged into the Korean entertainment scene as a contestant in JTBC's audition program Sing Again 4, has died. She was 27.
Per Yonhap News, the singer died on June 7. Her wake was held at a hospital funeral hall in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
According to SBS Star, an entertainment outlet under South Korea's Seoul Broadcasting System, it was Kim's acquaintance who announced the news on Instagram.
"Seol has gone to heaven. Her phone and everything else are locked, so I could notify anyone directly, which is why I'm sharing this on Instagram. Please join us so Seol's final journey won't be lonely," they wrote.
Kim had an active career as a singer. She first became known in the industry in 2013 when she won Mnet's children's audition program Voice Kids. Later, she dropped the digital single Man and Woman, a collaboration with singer-songwriter Yang Yo-seob.
She continued writing songs and performing, later on appearing in I Can See Your Voice 7, The Voice Korea 2020, and Sing Again 4.
The singer made herself accessible to her fans through TikTok. It was on this platform that she gave her followers a glimpse of her life. Ironically, she would have marked the 100th day of her TikTok presence on the day she passed away. It was a special occasion that Kim looked forward to officially marking on her platform.
"It's not at midnight today, but at 8:00 PM on the day. I thought about going live right at midnight as it transitions to the 100th day, but I just couldn't find the strength, so I actually hesitated a lot about whether to even do the 100th-day broadcast. But since there are regular viewers, I should find the strength and do it, right?" the singer wrote, as translated from Korean to English by SBS Star.
She then addressed her fans directly at the time, writing, "Thank you so much for always being with me. Let's continue to make good times together in the future."
