EXO's Kai to enlist in the military on May 11
EXO's Kai is set to enlist in the military on May 11 as a public service worker.
His agency SM Entertainment announced the news on Wednesday, May 3, as reported by South Korean news outlet Soompi.
“We have come to relay sudden news to fans regarding Kai’s military service,” they began their statement. They went on to explain that Kai’s sudden enlistment was due to changes on rules of Military Manpower Administration.
“Kai was preparing for EXO’s comeback scheduled for this year, but due to a recent change in regulations of the Military Manpower Administration, he is set to enter the army recruit training center on May 11 where he will receive basic military training, and he will then serve as a public service worker,” they wrote.
“In respect of Kai’s intention to enlist quietly, his enlistment location and time will not be revealed, and there will be no special event on the day of, so we ask for the understanding of fans,” they continued.
The agency also shared that further details about EXO’s upcoming album are yet to be announced.
Kai is the seventh member to enlist in the military, following Baekhyun who just finished his military service in February.
He recently released his third solo mini album Rover in March, which includes the songs Rover, Black Mirror, and Bomba, among others.
Kai is the main dancer of K-pop boy group EXO, including Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., and Sehun. They debuted in 2012 and is known for their songs Growl, Love Shot, and Call Me Baby, among others.
