Lexi Minetree is set to star as Elle Woods in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.

Reese Witherspoon, the original star in the hit film who serves as the producer of the new offering, announced on Friday, Feb. 14 that Lexi has been cast for the lead role.

“Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle in the prequel series on [Prime Video], we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet [Lexi Minetree],” she captioned her post, sharing a video of how she told Lexi that she got the part.

“We had to make a really hard decision the other day and we wanted to tell you in person because you’ve just worked really hard. And we just wanted to tell you that you don’t have to audition anymore because you got the part. You’re Elle Woods,” Reese said.

Lexi turned emotional and called her mom to share the news.

Her mom, for her part, noted how they sound the same.

“When I saw her tape, I was like, ‘Are we the same person?'” Reese quipped.

“Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film,” the official logline of the upcoming prequel series read.

This will be Lexi’s first starring role. She previously appeared in Law & Order: SVU, The Murdaugh Murders, and The Paramedic Who Stalked Me

The upcoming series will be produced by Reese alongside Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

The first Legally Blonde film follows the story of the ever-fabulous and brilliant lawyer, Elle Woods. She initially wanted to become Mrs. Warner Huntington III and win her ex-boyfriend back, so she followed him to Harvard to pursue law. She, however, later realized that she's much more than her looks.
