Donald Petrie, the director of comedy favorites Miss Congeniality and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and Karen McCullah, the screenwriter behind the cult classics 10 Things I Hate About You and Legally Blonde, are collaborating on a romantic comedy set in the Philippines.

Variety reported that The Last Resort follows a female hotel executive sent to scout a new resort location in the Philippines. She becomes captivated by the breathtaking scenery and its people's warmth while meeting a charming expatriate charter pilot.

Sheila Jaffe, the casting director of The Italian Job, The Fighter, and Ted, has started the casting process.

Production is set to begin early this year, according to Variety.

Petrie's career started in the '70s as a television actor. His directorial debut was through the 1988 rom-com Mystic Pizza. His other known movies include Opportunity Knocks, Grumpy Old Men, Richie Rich, and Just My Luck.

Petrie also directed several episodes of TV series like The Equalizer and L.A. Law, where he got an Emmy nomination in 1987.

McCullah, meanwhile, was born in the Philippines and grew up in the United States. As a screenwriter, she's also behind the scripts of Ella Enchanted, She's the Man, The House Bunny, The Ugly Truth, and Crazy Kind of Love.

Manny V. Pangilinan of the MVP Group of Companies, which includes The Philippine STAR, will serve as the entertainment offering's executive producer.
