Manuel Quezon biopic to be released in 2025
The highly-anticipated biopic about Philippine president Manuel Quezon is about to start production in March, with a target theatrical release later this year.
Quezon is the latest entry in the so-called "Bayaniverse," a series of films by TBA Studios based on Philippine history. Titles include the hits Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, which were about Filipino heroes Antonio Luna and Gregorio Del Pilar, respectively.
Quezon will follow the titular Filipino lawyer and soldier who became the president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944. It will highlight his tumultuous presidential campaign against Emilio Aguinaldo.
TBA Studios President and Chief Operating Officer Daphne Chiu said Quezon will be released locally and internationally.
Chiu noted that Quezon is a stand-alone movie though set within the same cinematic continuity of Heneral Luna and Goyo.
Jerrold Tarog, who directed and co-wrote the two Bayaniverse movies, will be at the helm of Quezon.
Casting for the movie is ongoing and will be announced soon.
Quezon is TBA Studios's first production since 2020. It's supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The latter announced funding for the movie last year.
