Another Filipino actor is joining the final installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

In a June 15 Twitter post, director James Gunn revealed that Filipino-American actor Nico Santos is part of the cast of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which wrapped production last month.

“Yes @nicosantos is in #GotGVol3. Hilarious & talented & sweet guy who, like me, got engaged during Vol. 3 because magic & love were in the air,” Gunn wrote.

Santos is teaming up with fellow Filipino-American actor, Dave Bautista, who plays the character of the revenge-driven, Drax the Destroyer.

The latest film installment in Marvel Studios’ superhero film trilogy also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki, Will Pouter, Chuk Iwuji, Daniela Melchior, and Maria Bakalova.

Prior to his stint in the ever-growing universe of Marvel Studios, Santos is best known for portraying the role of Oliver T’sien in Crazy Rich Asians and sales associate Mateo Fernando Aquino Liwanag in NBC series’ Superstore, where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in the Critics’ Choice Television Award.

Although plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are still being kept tightly under wraps, the first two installments followed a ragtag team of intergalactic outlaws led by celestial-human hybrid Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, as they travel throughout the cosmos to protect the universe from existential threats.

Meanwhile, Gunn previously shared during a Hero Nation Podcast that the latest installment in his trilogy will be the last time fans will see them together.

“This is the end for us. This is the last time people will see this team of Guardians... I just want to be true to the characters, and I want to be true to the story and I want to give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. So that is always a little bit scary; I'm doing my best,” Gunn said on Guardians of the Galaxy’s conclusion, which he described as “big and dark.”

The first film grossed $772.8 million in 2014 while the 2017 sequel raked in $863.8 million worldwide. The third installment is slated to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
