Ghost of Tsushima gets co-op mode in Legends
An online cooperative multiplayer mode dubbed as Legends is coming to Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima later this year.
The studio announced that Legends will introduce a separate mode that doesn’t follow the storyline of Jin or his companions. Instead, the new update will focus on four warriors who have been built up as legends by the residents of the war-torn island. Unlike Ghost of Tsushima's open world campaign, Legends will give emphasis on cooperative combat and action, bringing a “haunting and fantastical” twist in the samurai adventure game.
In a blog post, Senior Game Designer Darren Bridges explained that Legends has been designed to bring an “exclusively cooperative gameplay experience."
Instead of the usual story extension that usually comes shortly after a game’s launch, the update will allow players to team up with their friends or use matchmaking in groups of up to four people. The mode will also introduce four character classes (Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, Assassin) that each posses unique abilities which will be revealed in the near future.
"With two players in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you’ll be able to play a series of co-op Story missions that escalate in difficulty, building on the foundation of combat from the single-player campaign but with new magical twists that often require careful synchronization with your partner,” Bridges said. “With four players, you’ll be able to take on wave-based Survival missions, fighting groups of the toughest enemies Tsushima has to offer, Including new Oni enemies with supernatural abilities.”
"We’re happy to offer this mode completely free to Ghost of Tsushima owners as a thank you to our players," Bridges added.
Sucker Punch also announced that a four-player mode called Raid will arrive shortly after the launch of Ghost of Tsushima’s new cooperative mode.
