Anne Curtis is set to lead filmmaker Mikhail Red's next film, titled Remote.

According to a Variety report, the feature will be a paranoia thriller set in Manila following Violet Olvido (Curtis), a journalist who investigates a string of murders linked to an international outsourcing company that recruits workers across the Philippines. As she goes deep into her probe, she starts to lose grip on reality.

Red told the international outlet that the film is inspired by the remote work that rose in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There's been a rise of online digital nomads post-pandemic, displaced in their own time zones working graveyard shifts. Most are VAs or virtual assistants for western companies, who do odd tasks for high pay due to the exchange rate but at the same time may be vulnerable to exploitation because of legal grey zones," he said.

"The film also poses the question of who or what really controls us? It is the colonization of consciousness itself and the weaponization of fear."

Red added that Remote will see him exploring crime, violence, and investigation through procedurals again, similar to his early work.

"Remote visits that territory, but this time through the lens of psychological horror and paranoia. It is also perhaps the closest I have come to making a serial killer film, a genre I have always wanted to explore," he remarked.

The upcoming thriller is produced by Evolve Studios and Viva Films, which previously produced Red's Deleter.

It will be Curtis's first film with Red. She recently starred in The Loved One, Love You So Bad, and other TV projects such as It's Okay to Not Be Okay and the in-production BuyBust: The Undesirables.

Red's other works include Birdshot, Neomanila, Eerie, Dead Kids, Block Z, Nokturnoand Lilim.
