Barbie Hsu's family denies inheritance feud rumors with husband DJ Koo
Barbie Hsu's family denied that an inheritance feud exists between them and the late actress' husband, South Korean singer and disc jockey DJ Koo.
Taiwanese media outlet ET Today reported that Hsu's mother, nicknamed "S Mom," and Koo are both preparing lawsuits over the alleged division of Hsu's real property worth 1-B Taiwanese dollars or P1.85 billion.
“I detest lawsuits. They waste people and money,” S Mom said, describing his relationship with Koo as familial. “I now call Koo my son. He deeply loved my daughter and respects me. He is part of our family.”
Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, also shut down the claim.
“Whoever creates this sort of rumor is malicious and has ill intent. Koo gave my sister pure love and real happiness. Our family is grateful to him. He is our family. We will protect him," she said.
The issue surfaced a week after Koo, whose real name is Koo Jun-yup, and Hsu's family honored Hsu with a memorial statue on her first death anniversary at Jinbaoshan Memorial Park in Taiwan.
In March 2025, Taiwanese news outlets reported that Hsu's inheritance had been divided among Koo and Hsu's children with businessman Wang Xiaofei.
Koo earlier said he'd give his share "entirely" to Hsu's mother.
However, legal experts in Taiwan said inheritance rights are personal and cannot be transferred to another individual. If Koo formally gives up his share, Hsu's assets will go entirely to her children.
In February last year, Hsu died of pneumonia after contracting influenza during a Lunar New Year celebration in Japan. She was 48.
She rose to fame through Meteor Garden, where she starred alongside the boy group F4, comprising Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu, and Vic Chou.
