Barbie Hsu's husband to protect her children from the 'wicked,' give share of her P1.76 billion wealth to his mother-in-law

The late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu's South Korean husband, Koo Jun-yup, said he would take legal action to protect her children from the "wicked" and give his share of her hard-earned inheritance to his mother-in-law.

In an Instagram post on Feb. 6, Koo, a South Korean singer and DJ, shared an all-black photo and mourned Hsu's passing in the caption.

“I am currently in a state of indescribable sadness and pain, with a heart as if being cut by a knife, and my insides are torn apart. I have no strength to speak, nor do I want to speak,” Koo wrote in a mix of Chinese and Korean, according to a translation from the South China Morning Post.

Koo took a swipe at individuals tarnishing the image of their family, even walking in the rain.

He was apparently referencing Hsu's ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, who reportedly flew from Taiwan to Thailand upon learning of her death and was spotted walking in the rain on Feb. 3.

Wang and Hsu divorced in 2021 after a 10-year marriage. In December 2022, they took to social media to write bitter posts against each other regarding their children and money.

Koo said Hsu's wealth, estimated at 1.7 billion new Taiwan dollars (P1.76 billion), was earned for her family through hard work and dedication.

"Therefore, I have decided to hand over my share entirely to my mother-in-law,” he said.

He also vowed to keep "wicked" people away from Hsu's children, aged 8 and 10.

“I will take legal measures through lawyers to protect their rights until they reach adulthood,” he said. “I believe that safeguarding the family that Shi-yuan loved most is the last thing I can do for her.”

Hsu died of pneumonia after contracting influenza during a Lunar New Year celebration in Japan.

She rose to fame in Meteor Garden, starring alongside the boy group F4 comprising Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu, and Vic Chou.

She also appeared in the television series Mars (2004), Corner with Love (2007), and Summer's Desire (2010).

Hsu retired from acting after marrying Wang in 2011. She appeared in some variety shows and advertisements afterward.

Koo and Hsu, who had dated before her first marriage, rekindled their relationship and got married in March 2022, or three months after her divorce from Wang.
