‘Bridgerton’ to explore young Violet and Edmund’s love story in new spin-off
Bridgerton is expanding its universe with a new spin-off centered on the romance between a young Violet Bridgerton and her future husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.
The announcement was made on the series’ official Instagram account on Oct. 8.
According to Netflix’s official entertainment site, Tudum, the limited series will explore Violet’s early life and offer a glimpse into the Bridgerton family’s history before the events of the original series.
Violet, played by Ruth Gemmell in the main series, is the widowed matriarch of the Bridgerton family. While the original series follows the romantic pursuits of her children, the new spin-off will look into Violet's own love story before she became the family's viscountess.
The upcoming production will be written and showrun by Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, who will also serve as executive producers. Tom Verica, who has directed episodes of the series, and Betsy Beers will also executive produce the project.
The spin-off follows Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which explored the early romance between Queen Charlotte and King George III. The 2023 prequel also featured a younger version of Violet, played by Connie Jenkins-Greig.
Netflix has yet to announce the spin-off's title, cast, or release date.
Meanwhile, production is underway for Bridgerton Season 5, which will follow Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). The season is expected to premiere in 2027 and will center on the pair's romance following the death of Francesca's husband, John Stirling.
The series' sixth season has also been confirmed, continuing Netflix's adaptation of Julia Quinn's novels about the Bridgerton siblings and their search for love.
