‘Bridgerton’ prequel novel about Queen Charlotte in the works from Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes

Dear readers, it seems that we’ll finally get a glimpse of Queen Charlotte’s story in written form.  

Bridgerton author Julia Quinn and television showrunner Shonda Rhimes are joining forces for a Bridgerton prequel based on the upcoming Netflix series focused on Queen Charlotte and her rise to power.  

The prequel novel will be published by Avon Books and its release will coincide with the spinoff’s premiere, according to a tweet from the publishing company Thursday, July 7.

 

The Bridgerton prequel will reportedly tell the story of how Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) rose to “prominence and esteemed power.” It will also focus on the love story of the young Queen and King George, alongside the societal shift that took place during their time.  

The young Queen Charlotte is set to be played by India Amarteifio while Arsema Thoma plays the younger version of Lady Danburry (Adjoa Andoh.)

Also included in the social season of the old is Ruth Gemmel as Lady Bridgerton and Corey Mylchreest as the young King George. As reported by Deadline, British actors Katie Brayben and Keir Charles were added to the cast of the spinoff as Vivian Ledger and Lord Ledger respectively. 

The exact release date of the prequel novel is yet to be announced. 

The Bridgerton novel series by Julia Quinn currently consists of eight Regency romance novels released from 2000 to 2006, whch follows the eight siblings from the Bridgerton family as they navigate London high society. The television adaptation which launched in 2020 became one of Netflix's biggest hits.
