Solon files resolution honoring BINI as first Filipino act in Coachella
A solon has filed a resolution commending BINI as the first Filipino act to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
Under Senate Resolution No. 370 as released to media, Senator Bam Aquino said BINI's historic debut in Coachella 2026 "exemplified excellence and brought pride to the nation."
“BINI's participation in Coachella underscores the growing potential of the Philippine creative economy, demonstrating how Filipino talent can generate global demand, create economic opportunities, and strengthen the country’s presence in the global cultural and creative landscape," the resolution read.
He noted that the P-pop girl group showcased Filipino pride through the use of salakot, tropical-inspired attire, and in incorporating traditional music and other native elements.
Aquino also said that the their achievement contributed to continued growth of Philippine Pop and opens more opportunities for Filipino artists.
He added that BINI's success is in line with state policy to support and develop the creative industries as drivers of innovation, employment, and inclusive growth.
"BINI's achievement serves as an inspiration to young Filipinos, demonstrating that Filipino talent can thrive and gain recognition on the world stage 22 through passion, discipline, and excellence," the resolution concluded.
BINI was announced as part of the Coachella 2026 lineup last September. Other performers include big names in the international music scene like Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, The Strokes, and Addison Rae.
The girl group is set to return to the Mojave stage at Coachella on April 18 at 7:15 a.m. Philippine time.
Consisting of members Mikha, Aiah, Maloi, Jhoanna, Colet, Sheena, Gwen, and Stacey, the group debuted in 2021 with Born to Win. They grew more popular in 2023 and 2024 as their songs Pantropiko, Salamin, Salamin, Karera, and more went viral online. This led to them being dubbed the "nation's girl group."
