Dolly de Leon to wear a suit to the 2023 Oscars: 'I want to be fluid'
Modern suiting isn’t only limited to men and those who work in corporate jobs—women can wear them to causal and formal social gatherings, too! One female celebrity who always worked the power suit is Dolly de Leon.
During the Golden Globes afterparty, Dolly was spotted in an oversized powder blue suit by Del Core. In a separate event, she chose to wear a cropped blazer to go with her white wide leg jumpsuit —both by Prabal Gurung—and accessorized it with a super adorable Judith Leiber bejeweled cat minaudiere.
While it is known that she has received numerous accolades for her performance in Triangle of Sadness, the Filipina actress is also gaining attention because of her snatched red carpet looks.
In an exclusive interview, Dolly told PhilSTAR L!fe that she will be borrowing from the boys and wear a suit to the 75th Academy Awards happening this March 13 (Philippine time).
“I [will be wearing] a suit because I'd like think that I’m fluid,” Dolly said. “I'm fluid in terms of my expression of how I dress, my clothes, and pati personality ko, I am fluid. So, this time I want to go androgynous…which is reflective of my personality.”
Dolly said that she has yet to fit the outfits LJ Perez, a New York-based Filipino stylist, has picked out for her so she couldn’t spill the designer’s name. However, she revealed that she wants to be dressed up in something different other than her previous formal looks.
“I wanna go there na puwedeng babae ako, puwedeng lalaki,” Dolly added, adding that comfort is key.
“I want to be comfortable. Alam mo, those award things, it's a lot of walking,” she dished. “Kasi diba you only see the pictures of us posing or whatever? But it's a lot of walking. It's probably 45 minutes of walking from station to station to talk to a reporter, to the next place where pipicturan ka.”
The veteran actress also noted that she will again be wearing the blue ribbon that she wore during the 2023 British Academy Film Awards. This ribbon is an “emblem of compassion and solidarity” with the refugees all over the world, and actresses like Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee-Curtis have worn them too.
“I'm doing this together with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and they are an organization that helps refugees all over the world to find a better future,” she told L!fe.
As we wait for Monday’s festivities (and Dolly’s look, of course), check out the previous outfits Dolly has worn in other awards night.
