A little rebellion for style seekers
Fall is one of my favorite seasons, although there is no autumn in the Philippines. I just appreciate the season’s dark colors and rich textures which I find especially beautiful. I was reminded of this at a recent event as Charles & Keith unveiled its fall 2026 collection, with bags, shoes and accessories in deep tones, textured finishes, and a mix of polished and rebellious details.
Wai Teng Lai, regional commercial manager of Charles & Keith International, told me that “we don’t want to define the Charles & Keith woman or customer by age. We see her as either a ‘style seeker’ or ‘polished minimalist.’ We break it down into these two categories.”
It is a fitting way to look at the fall 2026 collection because there is a bit of both personalities in it. There are pieces that are clean and quietly sophisticated, but there are also shoes and accessories that have a little more attitude.
“Charles & Keith’s fall 2026 collection brings together a rebellious, street-led attitude with archival influences, reimagined through a modern lens,” said Faye Abad, brand manager of Charles & Keith Philippines. “This season is all about individuality, playing with textures, layering, proportions and rich, darker tones.”
The collection forms part of the brand’s fall-winter 2026 campaign, Light Beyond the Horizon, which takes transformation and renewal as its theme. Its styling plays with contrasts: structure and fluidity, weight and lightness, refinement and edge. It celebrates transitions through pieces that feel both familiar and unexpected, balancing practicality with a refined sense of self-expression.
At the center of the collection is the Ginevra Tote, the season’s hero bag. Roomy and softly structured, it is designed to move easily between professional and personal life and can be carried in the hand, over the arm, or close to the body. “The Ginevra tote is designed to add character and confidence to everyday styling,” Abad said.
I particularly like the collection’s use of brown. There is something warm and sophisticated about the deeper shades that appear throughout the season. The Cesia Metallic-Accent Bucket Bag in Pecan Brown has a long, clean silhouette finished with gold-tone hardware, while the Ginevra Tote in black is the kind of practical, polished bag that can become an everyday favorite.
The footwear is where fall 2026 becomes more adventurous. The Aether Grommet Studded Mary Jane Flats take the familiar Mary Jane and toughen it up with grommets and studs. The result is still feminine, but less sweet. The collection describes the Aether Mary Janes as a meeting of refinement and rebellion, which sums it up nicely.
Then there is the Aether Denim Thong Boots, a knee-high denim style with an open thong toe that is certainly one of the more daring pieces of the season. The Eliza Faux Suede Block-Heel Ankle Boots in sand and black are easier to slip into an everyday wardrobe, with their substantial heels and classic fall texture.
Other standouts include the Jollie Grommet Mary Jane Sneakers, which put a sportier spin on the Mary Jane trend, and the sophisticated Emelia Leopard-Print Slingback Pumps. Leopard has a wonderful way of coming back into fashion again and again, and on a pointed slingback it adds glamour without requiring too much effort.
Actress and singer Francine Diaz, who attended the launch, was drawn to the Vega Faux Suede Elongated Bowling Bag. “If I could buy everything, I would,” she said. Diaz normally gravitates toward larger bags but said she has been experimenting with smaller ones. She chose the Vega because “it makes me feel I am going somewhere special,” adding that she also likes its minimal design.
Some of the most charming pieces are also the smallest. The collection includes adorable bag charms: a faux shearling Poodle, a leather-fringed dog, a furry squirrel with an acorn, and an acorn. They were inspired by the warmth and nostalgia associated with autumn, with woodland animals, dogs, and other nature motifs. The charms bring a playfulness to the otherwise grown-up bags and are an easy way to make a piece feel more personal.
That sense of individuality carried over into the launch itself. One of the most anticipated activities was a pottery-painting session inspired by two key pieces, the Ginevra Tote and the Aether Mary Jane Flats, where they painted on pottery pieces that were shaped by these items. Guests had a blast with this and displayed their individuality through their “finished product.”
Charles & Keith began in Singapore in 1996 and has since grown into a global fashion brand. The brand has over 600 to nearly 700 stores in over 30 countries across Asia, Pacific, and the Middle East. In the Philippines, Charles & Keith has 18 boutiques in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
Thirty years after it began, Charles & Keith continues to move easily between the polished and the playful. Fall 2026 gives the minimalist her beautifully shaped tote and classic ankle boots, while the style seeker can have her denim thong boots, studded Mary Janes, or leopard slingbacks. And with Charles & Keith’s fall 2026 collection, the most polished look is the one with just a little rebellion in it.
