Onitsuka Tiger rewrites its sports legacy in Milan
At Milan Fashion Week, Onitsuka Tiger’s AW26 collection sharpened its fashion positioning with a focused, accessories-led statement. While ready-to-wear balanced softness and structure, it was the footwear that delivered the clearest evolution of the brand’s identity.
The most striking development was how the signature Tiger stripes were reimagined into slingback heels. Rather than leaning on retro sneakers, the house translated its athletic DNA into a refined, open-heel silhouette where the stripes became a graphic design feature—structural, directional, and unmistakably branded. The result felt polished but still rooted in sport, bridging performance heritage with a more feminine, city-ready attitude.
Equally strong were the mountain boots, which replaced any overtly sporty boxing references with a more rugged, outdoors-inflected edge. Lace-up, sturdy, and urbanized for the runway, they were styled with pleated skirts and tailored outerwear, reinforcing the collection’s preppy-meets-street tension. Floral-print lace-up ankle boots added another layer of contrast—delicate in motif, assertive in shape—underscoring the brand’s play on dualities.
The iconic Mexico 66 also received an update in a more streamlined, contemporary silhouette, while lace-up ankle booties that seemed to reference the Mexico 66 Boxing are rendered in colorful snakeskin (or perhaps snake-print?) leather. The textured finish elevated the familiar low-profile silhouette into something more fashion-forward, transforming a heritage staple into a statement piece without losing its instantly recognizable form.
Bags echoed the same balance of function and flair. Compact crossbody styles detailed with bungee cords introduced a subtle technical feel, adding movement and elasticity to otherwise clean shapes. The cords emphasized utility while complementing the footwear’s hybrid sensibility.
Styling throughout leaned distinctly preppy and urban—structured coats layered over pleats, softened tailoring offset by rugged boots, heels paired with sporty references. The overall effect was controlled yet dynamic, signaling a brand comfortable reshaping its codes rather than abandoning them.
The front row reinforced the collection’s regional and global resonance. Among the attendees were K-pop artist Hong Eunchae of Le Sserafim, Filipino actress and fashion figure Heart Evangelista, and Filipino dancer and content creator Niana Guerrero—a lineup that highlighted Onitsuka Tiger’s strong cultural footprint across Asia and its growing stature within Milan’s luxury conversation.
