Gucci takes Monte Carlo
From the ‘60s to the present, Monaco has held a special place in the world of Gucci. Its iconic print, the Flora, which features a design of 27 flowers rendered in 34 distinct colors, was originally conceived as a silk scarf by Vittorio Acconero at the request of Rodolfo Gucci for Princess Grace of Monaco. The floral pattern gained fame when it was worn by the Princess, cementing a decades-long relationship between Gucci and the Principality.
Six decades later, Gucci Flora continues to inspire successive creative directors, recently reappearing in Demna’s latest Gucci Monte Carlo collection. The latest collection features pieces that move with ease, transitioning effortlessly from daytime lounge to evening glam, featuring sharp tailoring, fluid shapes and relaxed denim.
The women’s collection features summer essentials with edge and sharp tailoring, and pieces featuring flowing silhouettes rendered in Flora motif. For men, the collection has everyday separates and relaxed denim.
This balance between innovation and tradition is what makes Gucci a perennial favorite with celebrities who seek looks that feel both contemporary and timeless. At a recent cocktail event at Solaire, I asked some celebrities and influencers in attendance about their personal Gucci favorites and their picks from the Monte Carlo collection.
Pia Jauncey: “I have the Giglio bags in monogram canvas so the suede version is the piece that caught my eye—it’s perfect for the fall season.”
Michelle Marquez-Dee: “One of the Gucci things I love the most is my Gucci Horsebit Bag—it’s versatile and I can use it for a lot of occasions. I love the new collection—it has a new energy with creative direction under Demna.”
Kylie Versoza: “The Boulevard pump is a favorite because it has a high heel but I find it comfortable to wear. I currently have the Giglio bag in monogram canvas so definitely I’m eyeing this season’s version in Flora print.”
BJ Pascual: “My favorite is the Gucci Horsebit jeans—super casual yet elevated. My favorite bag from the brand is still the Jackie bag in the medium size. The style with embossed croc particularly caught my eye. I’m not usually a clutch person but I like this Positano clutch I’m using right now because you can scrunch it up.”
Gucci stores are located in Greenbelt 4 Ayala Center; Shangri-La Plaza; The Shoppes at Solaire; and The Mall Nustar in Cebu.
