A stunning evening gown is one of the most important factors at beauty pageants, and these ladies understood the assignment.
The 32 fierce Miss Universe Philippines candidates walked the stage of The Cove, Okada Manila last Wednesday, April 27 at the preliminary competition of the pageant.
These contestants flaunted their best selves in swimsuits and evening gowns made by Filipino designers.
Majority of the ladies strutted the catwalk in embellished gowns. Bohol's Pauline Amelinckx, for one, donned a violet-colored bustier gown with crystals, sequins, and bead-embellishes. On social media, designer Louis Pangilinan explained that her gown represents the "vibrant purple sky."
"This Louis Pangilinan Fashion Empire collection evokes the feeling of awe in a starry night. The structure of this gown in the warmest color enliven for its demeanor and tranquil presence," he wrote.
Meanwhile, the beauty queen also explained that ube color also represents both the root crop that is abundant in her hometown and an acronym for UBE now also stands for the Ultimate Bohol Experience.
Julia Sauber of Albay also chose to shine in her embellished "warrior" dress by Leo Almodal. She explained in a post that her gown is inspired by the Asian warrior. It features a double slit for more movement.
"This gown is in every way me: proudly Asian, a fighter with a heart," she said.
Meanwhile, some contestants opted for classic dresses with minimal to no beading.
Cebu City's Chantal Elise Schmidt channeled her inner Old Hollywood glam in an Edward Castro black velvet dress with matching opera gloves.

The preliminary night was hosted by reigning queen Beatrice Luigi Gomez and Marco Gumabao.
Also present at the event was Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu, who served as one of the judges.
The Miss Universe Philippines 2022 finals night will happen on April 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
