Birkenstock classics get a makeover for Lunar New Year

We all know and love the classic Birkenstock silhouettes, but the new Spring Festival collection hits a little different. 

Just in time for Chinese New Year, Birkenstock is releasing a special Spring Festival edition with beautifully understated designs that weave in the energy of the Fire Horse without screaming about it.

The limited-edition line reinterprets three of the brand's most popular silhouettes—Boston, Arizona, and Florida—as it builds a unique look just for the coming Lunar New Year.

Florida

In Chinese culture, red is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity. The Florida fine-strap sandal in red, then, is the perfect way to make even your feet the bearers of good luck this coming Lunar New Year. With three golden D-buckles set against the deep Zinfandel red of the straps, this interpretation of the Florida cannot look more luxuriously fortuitous. 

Boston

The special Boston edition, which is still in that comfortable closed-toe silhouette, comes in Birkenstock's signature suede leather. For this capsule collection, however, extra details have been added, making it especially appropriate to wear them as the Fire Horse gallops in.

With its signature suede leather and footbed lined with premium leather, the Boston comes in black, red, or taupe. 

For the Spring Festival special edition, a Boston line also features the cloud motif, which, in Chinese culture, represents transformation, success, harmony, and good fortune. Matching the gleaming D-buckles is the gold foil print showing off the cloud images. 

Arizona

Perhaps the most well-known Birkenstock silhouette, the Arizona has now received an upgrade. Similar to the Boston, the Spring Festival Arizona comes in black and rust red velvet, complete with golden big buckles. 

There are pieces with the cloud motif, as well, in black or vanilla. Similar to the Boston, the cloud images are applied in gold foil print. 

Because of these pieces' craftsmanship, they stay relevant long after the last mooncake of Spring Festival has been shared. After all, the brand has been at it for over 250 years, becoming known for its shoemaking and orthopedic expertise.
