Your Chinese zodiac's Ghost Month 2024 forecast
It may be the auspicious Year of the Dragon this 2024, but your luck may change if you’re not too careful this August, known as the Hungry Ghost Month in the Chinese calendar.
Ghost Month is when the gates of hell are believed to be left open for spirits to roam the earth and wreak havoc on the living through misfortune and negative energy.
This year, it will begin on Aug. 4 and end on Sept. 2. The annual Ghost Festival will be held on Aug. 18 in observance of the 15th day of the seventh lunar month.
PhilSTAR L!fe spoke with astrologer and feng shui consultant Jean Yu Chua for her insights on which Chinese Zodiac signs may receive the short end of the stick when it comes to luck and fortune during this spooky period.
Below are the specific forecasts for each of the 12 animal signs:
Rat (1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020)
You will have luck when it comes to your network and relationships. However, you should be careful with whatever deals and promises you make in order to stay safe during this month. It's best to stay focused on handling your emotions.
Ox (1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021)
Stay focused on yourself during this time to prevent any illness or emotional imbalance.
Chua warned against stressing too much about work. She added, "Kapag Ghost Month kasi, mas mabilis 'yung energy natin ma-drain. Mostly likely, kapag nasa kanya 'yung Illness Star, mas mabilis siyang maka-catch ng illness."
When it comes to health, don't just focus on the physical aspect, but also your mental and emotional well-being.
Tiger (1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022)
You Tigers need to mind your safety as you may have additional health issues in store. It's recommended that you refrain from engaging in risky behaviors to minimize the chance of accidents or injuries.
Rabbit (1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023)
Those with the Rabbit sign need to be smart in terms of handling finances, and that includes choosing projects and businesses wisely.
"Huwag siyang masyado maging impulsive or enter any investment or any business kasi for this month, ang Rabbit ay mayroon siyang Misfortune Star, so mayroon siyang chances of losing money," Chua said. "Kaya kailangan mas maging maingat siya sa pagpili ng mga projects or businesses na papasukan niya," she added.
Dragon (1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024)
The Dragon sign may relax this month as positive stars can help you maintain income and a good flow of energy when it comes to making deals and transactions.
However, you shouldn't get ahead of yourself when opportunities come up as you still need to be careful when pursuing new opportunities. "Ang kailangang gawin ng mga Year of the Dragon is to have a good planning or at least after ng Ghost Month, pwede na niya agad i-execute or i-implement 'yung mga gusto niyang gawin," Chua said.
Snake (1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025)
You may be presented with lots of opportunities this August, but as your emotions and energy will be strong during this time, you need to be more mindful about your decisions.
"Mas mafe-feel nung Year of the Snake 'yung changing of energy, kaya kailangan niya lang mas maging positive," Chua said.
Horse (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026)
Because of the Argument Star, the Horse sign may be easily upset by arguments or misunderstandings, so they will need to be more wary of how they communicate with other people.
You should also avoid being rude or insensitive when dealing with people, especially in important matters that can affect your business or career.
Goat (1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027)
Those born under the Year of the Goat will have to pay close attention to their finances and business as they have a weaker flow of income this month.
It's also recommended to maintain good communication with people to prevent negativity from prospering.
Monkey (1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028)
Be warned as you may easily attract violence and be piled up with tasks, so you may forget some important matters that you need to attend to.
"It may lead the Monkey to not-so-smooth transactions or businesses kaya kailangang maingat din 'yung mga Monkey in dealing with people to prevent negativity or misfortunes," Chua said.
Rooster (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029)
This is a good month for you to plan your new ideas, but keep in mind to implement them after Ghost Month so you won't get any misfortune from the spirits. It's best to hold on to them in the meantime.
Dog (1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030)
For the Dog, you shouldn't let any task go unfinished.
"You should try to think kung ano pa 'yung mga hindi pa natatapos na task or mga business or mga deals. Just go with the flow muna, huwag muna siyang mag-take ng mga risks or new projects this month," Chua said.
"Try niya lang i-go over lahat ng ginagawa niya para at least ready siya for the next month, kung ano 'yung mga gusto niyang gawin pa," she added.
Pig (1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031)
Those under the Year of the Pig should take extra precautions as disaster and conflict energies are stronger this August. This can cause an imbalance of emotions that can compromise your business dealings.
