Samantha Bernardo is currently in Thailand to represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Grand International pageant. And while we have to wait until Saturday to see if the beauty queen from Puerto Princesa, Palawan wins, Samantha is already winning the hearts of pageant fans.
The Miss Grand International coronation night will be held on Saturday, March 27. But its pre-pageant activities are already well under way.
On Saturday, March 20, the pageant’s 77 contestants participated in the Swimsuit Competition—with Samantha wowing the internet with her graceful walk and turns in her blue two-piece swimwear. The swimsuit competition was held at the roof deck of the State Tower in Bangkok.
Samantha became a trending topic over the weekend because of her swimsuit pasarela walk.
Meanwhile, for her preliminary interview on Monday, March 22, Samantha wore a white dress and pleated skirt which she describes as a “tribute to our motherland.”
She explains that the white symbolizes purity and peace, while her bolero Filipiniana jacket is embellished with pearls, “our national jewels.” Her earrings are inspired by the Sampaguita.
For the pageant's welcoming ceremony on Thursday, March 18, Samantha wore a dress inspired by her hometown, Planawa. The “fishnets and fish scales” details of her dress, she wrote on her Instagram account, “reveal the marine richness the island proudly exudes.”
“This gown describes the last frontier of the Philippines. PALAWAN, its pristine beauty, purity, and glory captured, inspired, and seized by this dress,” she wrote.
Samantha has also posted a video that may serve as a hint of her dress for the National Costume competition on Wednesday, March 24.
Samantha is aiming to be the country’s first Miss Grand International. The 28-year-old was appointed by Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. to represent the Philippines in the Miss Grand International pageant last month.
