Whether due to lifestyle, health, or other personal reasons, more and more people are now opting for surrogacy as a way to become parents.

ICYDK, surrogacy is an arrangement wherein the woman agrees to bear a child that someone else will raise, be it a couple or a single parent. Sometimes the biological father provides the sperm cell, and sometimes the surrogate can be artificially inseminated with an already-fertilized egg in a process called in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Take a look at some famous names who’ve opted for surrogacy.

Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho

Probably the most familiar local names when it comes to this agreement are doctors Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho, who welcomed their daughter, Scarlet Snow Belo to the world via surrogacy in 2015.

Scarlet Snow's surrogate mother remains anonymous, though the couple has been transparent in sharing that she is a Mexican-American based in the U.S.

Tan France and Rob France

The newest addition to take the surrogacy route is none other than Queer Eye’s Tan France. Tan took to Instagram to announce that they are expecting through a cheeky ‘ultrasound’ photo.

When it comes to surrogates with two fathers, they have the choice to pick a designated egg donor, or sperm samples can be mixed so there’s a 50/50 chance that it’ll come from either of them.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Due to complications with their first child, North, the celebrity couple decided to have their next three children via surrogacy with two different surrogates. Speaking with ELLE, Kim shared her process of choosing surrogates because “you know when you can trust someone."

Neil Patrick Harris and David

The How I Met Your Mother star welcomed fraternal twins in 2010. Harris and Burtka both inserted their sperm into two of the donors' eggs, and it produced a boy and a girl.

The miracle twins are now 10 years old.

Anderson Cooper

The celebrated journalist introduced his first son to the world in 2020 named Wyatt Morgan Cooper after Anderson's father. The journalist has since been co-parenting the toddler with ex-boyfriend, Benjamin Maisani.

Amber Heard

The 35-year old Aquaman actress proclaimed that it was the "beginning of the rest of my life" when daughter Oonagh Paige Heard was born on April 8. She kept the surrogacy private throughout the entire ordeal, as she's currently going through nasty legal proceedings with ex-husband, Johnny Depp.

"I wanted to do it on my own terms," Heard shared via Instagram on July 4. "I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way."

"I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib."
