Although pay is almost always the most important driver to attract employees, survey shows that candidates also consider work culture and environment when they are seeking for jobs.

In a recent survey conducted by JobStreet, it revealed that more than 50 percent of Filipinos would decline work opportunities if their employers’ beliefs do not align with theirs. Furthermore, the JobStreet’s Global Talent Survey results show that apart from good salary offers, seekers look for inclusive and diverse work culture— therefore emphasizing the importance of these two key aspects.

“Inclusivity means it’s not just allowing people to be tolerated but it’s important that people are valued and appreciated because many things can happen in diverse teams. You won’t believe what they can do, and they can reach impossible things together,” JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca said in a recent Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ANZCHAM Philippines) Virtual Luncheon.

Research also suggests that diverse talent in the workplace results in increased levels of productivity and performance as well as improved retention rates among workers.

Thus, Gioca encouraged employers to adapt a more genuine and inclusive hiring practice to ensure quality talents and improve productivity levels.

During the luncheon, the manager highlighted the significant role of higher management as well as the importance of good communication, sensitivity, and flexibility within an organization. These he told companies in order to foster an inclusive culture and behavior.

JobStreet said that many companies have furthered the inclusivity goal by accepting more job candidates from varying backgrounds.

Despite this, the company emphasized how inclusivity within the workplace does not exactly come easy and is something that requires cooperation from the entire organization.

“Inclusivity within the workplace is not something that is nurtured overnight. It takes a whole organization – from leaders at the highest level to the junior team members to have a deeper understanding and commitment towards the brand values and culture and displaying authenticity and acceptance.”
