The camp of Jamie Spears, father of Britney Spears, finally speaks out amid the backlash following the #FreeBritney campaign and documentary, claiming that the “loving, dedicated, and loyal father” saved his daughter’s life.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Jamie's lawyer Vivian Lee Thoreen said, “I understand that every story wants to have a villain, but people have it so wrong here.”
The attorney, who happens to be part of the much-talked about documentary The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears, believes that the pop princess' father saved his daughter's life through the conservatorship—which has granted Jamie to take control of Britney’s assets, estate, and business affairs since 2008.

"This is a story about a fiercely loving, dedicated, and loyal father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her, and they were exploiting her. Jamie saved Britney's life,” said the lawyer. She added that her assets were “mismanaged” and that Britney was “being taken advantage of financially.” But, with the help of her father, Britney’s $2.8 million in the bank grew to become $60 million by 2019.
“He has collaborated with her. When she is up for performing, she has performed. When she wants to record an album, she can record an album. And when she wants to live her life the way she wants like a normal person, he has collaborated with her to do that as well,” Thoreen explained.
Although contrary to what Jamie’s camp say, Britney—through her lawyer—has expressed fear over her father, saying she will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career. But Thoreen claims that Jamie has “never asked him to step aside.”
“Throughout 2020 Britney and her father had many conversations. And in fact, early on in the pandemic, they spent two weeks with other family members hunker down in Louisiana. Britney and Jamie went long drives together, they played and worked in the family garden. And every night Jamie cooked Southern Comfort food that the family ate and enjoyed together. And in that time, Britney never expressed those words to her father,” she told GMA.
When asked what she thinks of the #FreeBritney movement, she just says that people need to be reminded of why the conservatorship happened in the first place: Britney needed help.
“Jamie loves his daughter. And like any other family issues come up from time to time. But this in no way takes away from the love and support that they have for each other. Britney knows that her daddy loves her. And she knows that she can call on him. Anytime. conservatorship or not.”
