Perez Hilton regrets bullying Britney Spears in the past
Celebrity blogger and media personality Perez Hilton is in deep remorse for treating Britney Spears badly in the past.
During an interview with Good Morning Britain last Monday, he said, “I regret a lot or most of what I said about Britney as I’m sure Piers [Morgan] would if he were here about things he’s said in the past.”
“Thankfully, hopefully, many of us get older and wiser,” he added.
In the 2000s, Hilton gossiped about a sex tape of Spears, which he said he was “inclined to believe” exists. He also lectured the Pop Princess for being “disrespectful” to her fans after her comeback performance at the MTV VMAs in 2007, and has sold t-shirts that had a picture of the late Heath Ledger with a copy written: “Why couldn’t it have been Britney?”
Perez also defended respected journalist Diane Sawyer, who is also being criticized for slut-shaming Spears during an interview in 2003. “A respected journalist, a good woman, but many people are painting her out to be a villain.” He added, “I think a lot of fans and folks just want to blame this person and that person, but it's not as simple as that. There are real, mental health issues at play with Britney Spears.”
Perez’s apology came after he, the media, Justin Timberlake, Jamie Spears, and many more faced backlash after the premier of Framing Britney Spears, which examines the Pop Princess’ rise to fame, media’s cruel portrayal and treatment, and the artist’s father’s controversial conservatorship over her.
