3,500 hospitality jobs await Filipinos in Croatia

Your next career move could be in Croatia. The country is offering 3,500 hotel industry jobs to Filipinos, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.

In an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo, DMW Underscretary Patricia Yvonne Caunan confirmed that the Philippines struck a deal with the Croatian government to provide employment prospects for Filipinos.

"Papunta na po tayo sa pagroll-out ng agreement, at nagsabi na po ang Croatia na gusto nila ng government-to-government hiring, at ang unang industriya ay hotel industry," Caunan said.

She detailed that the professions the country is looking to fill are receptionists, hotel attendants, concierges, housekeepers, restaurant staff, and more.

When it comes to the job requirements, Caunan noted that interested applicants must be knowledgeable in the English language.

"Ang sabi naman po samin ay hindi nila irerequire ang Croatian language, basta po magaling mag-Ingles. 'Yan naman po ang advantage nating mga Pilipino at doon na lang po magkakaroon ng basic training ng Croatian language," Caunan said.

While the jobs are age-friendly, being physically fit may be a requirement for employers of hotel and resort businesses.

She highlighted that the DMW is now in the "final stages" of their discussions with their Croatian counterpart on the requirements per position.

"Para po sa kanila ay dapat po makarating na ang mga workers in time for their summer season kasi tourism center po ang Croatia," Caunan said.

Those who will be employed in hotels and resorts will also get free accommodation since these areas will be far from the country's capital, Zagreb.

Because of this government-to-government deal, there will also be no placement fees charged to Filipino workers. These are fees that a recruitment agency charges for their services in finding and placing a worker abroad.

Depending on the position, salaries range from 800 euros (P49,882) to 2,500 euros (P155,882) a month.
