LGBTQIA+ dating apps you can download for new connections—and beyond

For a lot of dating app users, it can take a lot of swiping to finally connect with someone they’d like to date.

For queers in Tinder and Bumble, finding a connection may be even more challenging due to apps’ wide range of hetero users. To help make online dating a much simpler and easier exercise for the LGBTQIA+ community, here’s a list of specialized dating apps you can download to form new connections and perhaps, even more. Wherever you are in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, these safe spaces are for you.

The BLUED app lets you “interact with hot guys in fun LIVE broadcasts from around the world or around you, or go LIVE yourself to get the attention of tons of guys at once.” You can send texts, photos (including disappearing ones), and real-time location to your chat mate as well as make online voice and video calls without a cost.

SCRUFF is another top-rated app for gay, bi, trans, and queer guys. Among its features aimed at forging new connections are a live queer quiz show, SCRUFF MATCH that lets you find guys who have the same interests as you, SCRUFF TRAVEL that helps you find LGBTQ+ parties and festivals near you, and the SCRUFF VENTURE that allows you to meet new people on your next trip and share your travel plans with them.

A hot dating app for LGBTQIA+ women, HER highlights queer events you can enjoy, share the latest news and happenings in the scene, and lets you have your own safe community groups on the platform. It’s free for basic chat features but for extras under HER Premium, you can “see who’s online now, filter by sexuality, and so much more.”

This list wouldn’t be complete without Grindr—“the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people.” With the app, you can find potential dates near your area, exchange private snaps with your chatmate, send your location, mark your favorites, and report people without a hitch. Like the aforementioned apps, it also has a function that allows you to start a group chat with your friends.
