GCash continues to break systemic barriers for women from all walks of life through accessible digital financial tools
GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance superapp and largest cashless ecosystem, celebrates Women’s Month by empowering more Filipinos to participate in the formal economy with accessible digital financial tools.
Across the country, many women still face barriers in accessing financial services, such as strict documentation, lack of credit history, and complex banking processes. As a result, many are excluded from formal credit, savings, investment options, and other financial products.
GCash is addressing this challenge by making financial services easier to access and understand. The approach focuses on a simple principle: giving access, gaining inclusion.
Strengthening protection with insurance
Primalou, a teacher and assistant operations manager, is one of the many Filipinas who were able to benefit from the accessible services of GCash. She had an unexpected accident, which meant additional out-of-the-pocket expenses. Fortunately, she discovered that GCash offers health insurance, and processing the claim was seamless.
"What matters is that in moments of unpredictability, mapapakinabangan siya. They delivered exactly what was promised," she stressed.
Women account for 56 percent of GInsure users, showing how GCash is helping them take control of their finances. With 132.6 million policies sold since launch and 20.6 million active users accessing 42 protection products, more Filipinos are recognizing the importance of financial security and emergency preparedness.
Championing women-led MSMES
The ecosystem also supports women entrepreneurs at the community level. Through GCash Pera Outlet Plus, small business owners can offer essential financial services such as cash-in, cash-out, bill payments, and remittance within their communities.
Many of these operators are women who earn additional income while helping expand financial access in underserved areas. With greater financial resources, these women—many of whom are also mothers—are better able to invest in their children’s education and health, ultimately contributing to broader economic growth.
Kayla, a carinderia owner, is one of the GCash users who provide cash-in and cash-out services in her community. "Talagang nag-boom ito at malaki ang naitulong sa amin," she said.
With more money in her coffers, Kayla expanded her venture and started a printing business as well. She was able to purchase equipment like a printer, a laptop, and a laminator.
Making lending more accessible to women
Responsible borrowing is one of the areas where the impact is already visible. Three in five borrowers from Fuse Financing, Inc., the lending arm of GCash, are women. Through GLoan, GCash provides fair and inclusive access to credit, particularly for women who may not have traditional banking records.
Sophie, a development worker, found relief through GCash when she was cash-strapped. She was able to apply for a loan through the app and receive quick approval, helping her better manage her finances.
"There was a time my salary got delayed for two months, and I really needed money to pay for rent and electricity," she said. "It got approved right away, and I was able to pay my bills the same day because the disbursement took less than five minutes."
GScore is at the center of this system. This in-house credit scoring model of GCash evaluates digital transaction behavior as a proxy for creditworthiness.
Finance for all movement
At the heart of it all, GCash makes sure that everyday transactions are accessible to all its users.
Wenna, a government employee, said that the app allows her to pay the monthly bills in a few clicks. The bills payment feature in GCash allows users to conveniently pay utilities, credit cards, and other bills anytime through their mobile phones, helping them save time and avoid long queues.
Zeny, a solo parent, meanwhile, can get the government subsidy straight to her own account, thanks to the partnership of her local government unit with GCash.
"Malaking bagay po na through GCash matatanggap ko na ang subsidy ko monthly para sa solo parents. Hindi na ako pipila; hindi ko na kailangang bumiyahe," she said.
GCash continues to play a key role in breaking barriers to financial inclusion by making essential financial services more accessible to Filipino women. Through digital tools for payments, lending, insurance, and entrepreneurship, it helps women gain greater control over their finances and improve their quality of life.
