The power of manifestation
When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it.—The Alchemist, Paolo Coelho
I remember being in my early days of high school. I was such a book nerd back then. I still am today, but then it was different. There was no social media and the use of internet was rather sparse. I spent hours browsing novels in Powerbooks. I would attend poetry slams to release all the unnecessary teenage angst. I had a dramatic soul and literature was my avenue.
They say not to judge a book by its cover, but I hate to admit, I often do. The imagery, the font, the choice of words and most importantly, the title, they all speak to me. Beckoning me from the depths of overfilled bookshelves.
The Alchemist. Was this about magic? Witchcraft? Mysticism? I purchased a copy. A decision that would then change my life.
It’s a very short read, lyrical and beautifully written. Perhaps for some, the story is too wistful; nonetheless, I loved it. I devoured every page, highlighting and underlining quotes and passages. As a brooding teenager, I was deeply touched by the idea that when your heart burns bright with a noble desire, the universe conspires to help you.
Manifestation. A word that has gone from the political realm—think “Manifest Destiny” or “manifestos”—to the motivational and spiritual space. If we really break it down, “manifestation” is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “an event, action, or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea” and “the action or fact of showing an abstract idea.” In this context, it’s quite literally turning your dreams into reality.
The Law of Attraction is part of the New Thought movement founded on the teachings of Phineas Quimby in the 19th century. Our thoughts and emotions are made of pure energy and like energy can attract like energy. Therefore, if we have the right mindset, we can basically have everything we hope for.
What I find fascinating is that manifestation is, in fact, rooted in science and the key to understanding this is accepting this one fact: we are all energy.
The famed electrical engineer Nikola Tesla declared: “If you want to know the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
For everything around us—including ourselves, if we break it all down to our smallest subatomic particles, protons, neutrons and electrons— you’ll find that quantum physicists have proven that these are all vibrating waves of energy, and that the concept of tangible reality is all relative.
In the mid-90s, the Weizmann Institute of Science conducted a highly controlled experiment on how beams of electrons behave depending on the observer. When scientists would come into the room to study the electrons, which are expected to behave like solid vibrating particles, they do behave like particles. However, when they would leave the room, they recorded that the electrons would then behave more like intangible energetic waves.
In short, their thoughts affected the experiment.
Further to this, the 2022 Nobel Prize winners for Physics, Alain Aspect, John Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger, proved Quantum Entanglement— that a quantum relationship between two particles can exist over long distances. “Probably every particle in the universe is entangled with every other particle,” Clauser said in an interview. His co-awardee, Zeilinger, declared: “This goes against all the usual ideas about cause and effect and the nature of reality.”
What does this all mean?
Simply put, our energy, our intentions, WILL have an effect on the reality around us.
Consciously and intentionally, with the right manifestation mindset, we have the power to co-create our reality. Think in terms of basic science, negative attracts negative and positive attracts positive. The adage that misery loves company is absolutely true, even at a quantum level, so it’s crucial to do our best to surround ourselves with individuals and ideas that can uplift you.
The Story of The Alchemist was not just one of going after your dreams, but also of self-reflection. In fact, it has some roots in Jungian psychology which, when distilled to the very basics, says that our subconscious selves become our conscious selves. To shed our facades and embody all aspects our true nature. When we take the time to look inward, our intentions and desires become clear and there’s an energetic shift that happens within us. A palpable alchemical reaction where we become primed to co-create reality.
There’s also surrender and absolute trust that the universe and the Divine will bring you what is truly meant for you. It’s a constant process of accepting and releasing. The most abundant and truly happy people I know are those with no attachments. They give and receive so freely, they let go immediately of things that don’t work out and are grateful when they do. This allows a continuous flow of energy. Think of an unencumbered fiber optic system that efficiently and effectively allows that bright beautiful light to travel through space and time, communicating and illuminating.
The wonderful thing about manifestation is that anyone can do it and you can start immediately. In my latest podcast, I guide you through an easy meditation that allows you to harness the power of your subconscious mind to create the reality you desire.
I guarantee that at the very least, you will feel better and your journey to being more positive will begin. As Confucius said: “If you are positive, you’ll see opportunities instead of obstacles.” That’s alchemy right there.
