Bagong Henerasyon party-list proclaimed after Comelec junks DQ case

The National Board of Canvassers has proclaimed Barangay Henerasyon (BH) as one of the winning party-lists in the 2025 midterm elections.

This comes after the Commission on Elections suspended the proclamation of BH along with Duterte Youth due to pending disqualification cases before the poll body.

Comelec en banc on June 5 issued a certificate of proclamation for BH and its nominee, Roberto Nazal Jr.

"We enter this new chapter with a firm resolve. Through our legislative agenda and programs, we will turn your trust into action. Your voice into service. Your hope into progress," the party-list said in a statement.

A week before, the poll body affirmed the dismissal of the petition to disqualify the party-list as the petitioner failed to comply with the mandatory requirements.

Petitioner Russel Stanley Geronimo, who filed the motion for reconsideration, failed to provide an affidavit showing that a hard copy of the lawsuit had been sent to BH.

He was also not able to attach a copy of the Certificate of Nomination-Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination.

“The assailed order was neither without sufficient basis found in the records nor contrary to law. The allegations in the motion merely reiterate points already considered and passed upon in the assailed order, without presenting any new, compelling evidence that would alter the factual or legal conclusions previously reached,” the poll body said in its eight-page resolution.

The BH party-list gets one seat in the House of Representatives after receiving 319,803 votes.

According to the 1987 Constitution, members of the House of Representatives can serve three-year terms up to three consecutive times only.

Newly elected party-list and district representatives, as well as the 12 incoming senators, will take their oaths and begin their terms in the 20th Congress on June 30.

The midterm elections were held on May 12.

This year's 68.4 million registered voters surpassed the 65.7 million count in 2022.

Comelec said this year's elections also saw an 81.65% voter turnout in the early count, the highest in the history of the country's midterm polls.
