Habagat to continue to bring rains this week: PAGASA
Parts of Luzon are expected to see heavy rainfall this week due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
On Aug. 30, the state weather bureau said that the low pressure area in the Philippine Area of Responsibility developed into tropical depression Pilandok. It was located 1,225 km east of extreme northern Luzon and is moving west northwestward at 15 km per hour, making landfall over the country "less likely."
Nevertheless, it will still continuously enhance the habagat, with monsoon rains expected over Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan while occasional rains will still prevail over Metro Manila, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro.
The monsoon rains will still persist over Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan by Aug. 31 until Sept. 1, with occassional rains over Metro Manila, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
From Sept. 2 to 4, occassional rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan. Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may also still prevail over the rest of Luzon and over Western Visayas.
Keep in mind, however, that PAGASA may update their weekly outlook if significant changes in the forecast occur through the 24-hour public weather forecasts and weather advisories.
In their 5:00 a.m. Public Weather Forecast, weather specialist Obet Bedrina also noted that rainfall is expected to further weaken over Central Luzon, the NCR, and the CALABARZON area by Sept. 2.
"Pero posible pa rin yung malalakas na mga pag-ulan sa may bahagi naman ng Ilocos Region, maging sa Cordillera, particular na sa lalawigan ng Benguet at Abra, gayon din po sa Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, at Tarlac," he said.
On Aug. 29, Parts of Central Luzon and Metro Manila were flooded as monsoon rains persisted.
