Support for Duterte family drops; Marcos sees increase—survey
A public opinion research firm found that backers of the Duterte family and their allies have dropped to roughly three in 10 Filipinos, while more Filipinos now identify as independents, pro-Marcos, or with the opposition.
According to the noncommissioned August 2025 national survey of WR Numero, supporters of the Duterte family accounted for just 29% of respondents, an 11-point drop from April 2025.
The decline is most evident in the Dutertes' hometown in Mindanao, where 59% of Filipinos support him and his allies. In April, the family had support from 77% of respondents.
Meanwhile, 28% of respondents in Visayas back the Dutertes and 20% in Metro Manila—this marks a 13- and 6-point decline from the previous survey. Support across the rest of Luzon also fell sharply to 17% from 26% in April.
Meanwhile, 36% of Filipinos identify as independents or do not align with any political factions, which is a 4% increase from the same time period.
On the other hand, 19% of respondents answered that they support the Marcos family and their allies, making for a 4% increase from April. Some 16%, meanwhile, expressed favor towards members of the opposition such as Leni Robredo, Risa Hontiveros, and Bam Aquino, climbing up to 3% from last time.
The rest of Luzon saw the highest increase in Marcos supporters, from 21% to 27%. Those in Mindanao climbed up by 10 points (27%), Visayas up by six points (32%), and both Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon also saw an increase at 43% and 40% respectively.
WR Numero surveyed a total of 1,418 Filipino adults from July 29 to Aug. 6.
Things have been tense between the Duterte and Marcos families, even though President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte were once allies during the 2022 elections.
Before the elections, the two stood side by side in their campaigns, but since, they've been tearing each other down and spewing tirades over the past years.
