Malacañang declares Feb. 9 a holiday for Chinese New Year

Malacañang has declared Feb. 9 as a special non-working holiday in celebration of Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year is an annual 15-day festival that begins with the new moon that occurs between January 21 and February 20. This year, it will fall on Saturday, February 10, starting a year of the Dragon.
The declaration, the Palace said, "will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year and enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend."

The palace previously released the regular and special non-working holidays for 2024. This year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has removed the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary which was traditionally commemorated in mid-February from the list. The list also didn’t include Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha yet as it will be proclaimed once the Islamic calendar has been finalized.
