An employee of Chile-based cold meats manufacturer CIAL Alimentos vanished from his office after his employer accidentally deposited 330 times more than his salary into his payroll account.

According to a report by Santiago-based newspaper Diario Financiero, the employee was a dispatch assistant at CIAL Alimentos and would usually receive 500,000 Chilean pesos (P29,750 Philippine pesos) every payday.

However, on May 30, the employee was instead paid a whopping 165,398,851 Chilean pesos (9.8 million Philippine pesos) due to a payroll error.

The local news outlet reported that the employee immediately notified his deputy manager of the overpayment. The manager, in turn, reported it to the company's human resource department, which ordered the employee to go to his bank and return the funds.

However, the worker did not return the money and became unreachable despite being contacted by CIAL Alimentos for three days through calls and messages.

The former dispatch assistant reportedly sent his resignation letter through his attorney, with the company filing a complaint against him for misappropriation of funds.

CIAL Alimentos also refused to give their comments on the case, according to Diario Financiero.
