LTO reminds motorists extension of driver's license, vehicle registration validity ends July 31
Motorists have a little over a month left to renew their licenses and permits without having to pay corresponding penalties.
The Land Transportation Office is reminding the public of the July 31 deadline for the validity extension of driver's licenses, conductor's licenses, student driver's permits, and vehicle registration that were set to expire in April.
Until the deadline, penalties, surcharges, and fees for late renewal will be waived, according to LTO's Memorandum Circular No. MVL-2026-5157.
"The extension of validity and waiver to penalties granted under Memorandum Circular No. MVL-2026-5048 shall be in effect only until 31 July 2026," LTO wrote in an advisory released on its Facebook page. "All driver's licenses, conductor's licenses, student-driver's permits, and motor vehicle registrations covered thereunder must be renewed on or before said date to avail of the waiver of penalties."
"Renewals made after 31 July 2026 shall be subject to all applicable surcharges, penalties, and fees under existing laws, rules, and regulations," the agency added.
The three-month extension is part of a series of strategic interventions ordered by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. after he declared a state of national energy emergency on March 24 in response to the conflict in the Middle East.
"This measure aims to ease the burden of the public amid the rising costs of fuel and basic commodities, giving motorists sufficient time to comply without additional financial strain," LTO previously wrote in a statement announcing the extension.
