LOOK: The 215 House members who signed the impeachment complaint against VP Sara Duterte

Published Feb 06, 2025 9:37 pm

More than half of the members of the House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte from her position, with Presidential son and Senior Deputy Majority Leader Sandro Marcos the first to sign the complaint, and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, the cousin of the president, the last to affix his signature.

The House is comprised of 306 members overall, which means that at least 102 signatures, or one-third of the lower legislative chamber, are needed for the case to go up to the Senate for trial. Marcos and Romualdez are among the 215 lawmakers who have fixed their signatures on the impeachment complaint. Reports also indicate that 41 of the 60 House members from the congressional districts in Mindanao, where the Dutertes are favored, were among the signatories.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. revealed in a press briefing that his son sought his advice before signing. He shared that he asked him to support the impeachment process, emphasizing that it is his constitutional duty.

"Sabi ko kay Sandro, ‘The process has already begun. So, it’s your duty now to support that process. So do your duty. You have to support the process. You are constitutionally mandated to carry out that process. And you’re a congressman so do your duty,’" he shared with the press, adding that he "didn’t know he’d be the first to sign."
