“Together, we will emphasize the advantages of choosing the Philippines for medical care, where patients can expect a world-class healthcare services, complimented by our hospitality and our beautiful landscapes.”

This is the primary objective of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, in partnership with The Medical City (TMC), the largest medical network in the country. Through the ‘Discover Your Wellness’ series, the combined efforts of the two organizations seek to position the Philippines as the top global medical tourism destination.

Recognizing the significance of having access to quality healthcare while traveling, the said campaign was launched last July 17 during a memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing at Grand Hyatt Manila. This collaboration further establishes TMC as the Filipinos’ go-to companion in providing a holistic wellness journey, and different patient-centered programs.

In 2023, the premier healthcare brand received its second Healthcare Asia’s “Hospital of the Year” award. With five hospitals and 70 clinics all over the country, TMC remains committed to providing unparalleled services to nearly 500, 000 local patients every year. This is thanks to its advanced medical technologies, personalized care approach, and top-notch facilities.

Today, TMC expands its reach even more towards international patients. President and CEO of The Medical City Dr. Eugenio Jose Ramos said, “This partnership underscores our vision to delivering world-class healthcare accessible to a wider audience, blending exceptional medical care with the unique offerings of the Philippines.”

The DOT-TMC project features various tourist attractions, exciting activities, food, and the vibrant culture of the country, while also promoting the medical city’s expertise in tending to its people and understanding their needs.

It also promises the addition of International Patient Concierge Services and Lounge in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), providing tourists comfortable rest spaces, personalized welcome and escort services, expedited visa and customs clearance, and help desks for medical inquiries and tourism.

“With this, the goal is to position the Philippines as a premier health and wellness, and medical tourism hub in Asia and beyond, aligning with our objectives that seek to strengthen the foundation of the tourism industry from the ground up,” she added.

Since 2008, TMC has been a DOT-accredited hospital, with its flagship in Ortigas also recognized as a Joint Commission International (JCI) approved facility. Now, the medical enterprise hopes to get JCI accreditation for its four other complex hospitals to enable more medical opportunities across the Philippines.

Dr. Christian Delos Reyes, chief commercial officer of The Medical City, told the STAR in an interview that the ‘Discover Your Wellness’ collaboration aims to enhance the healthcare experience for both international visitors and local citizens.

“We are in partnership with the DOT to deliver world-class healthcare to the medical tourism market,” Dr. Delos Reyes emphasized. “Our commitment extends to both our Filipino citizens and our foreign clients, ensuring they receive the highest level of care at a competitive price.”

This initiative highlights the country's best-of-the-best natural attractions and provides world-class healthcare experience that is accessible, convenient, and affordable to everyone.
