Published Feb 24, 2025 5:01 pm

A tourist died after trying to take a snap of herself from the footboard of a train.

Citing the police, local newspaper Daily Mirror reported that Olga Perminova from Russia attempted to shoot a selfie while she was hanging from the train’s footboard between the railway stations of Badulla and Hali Ela during a trip to Sri Lanka.

Per the media outlet, the accident happened last week while the Podimanike train going to Colombo Fort was heading towards Ella.

Authorities detailed that the 53-year-old woman was left with major head injuries after hitting a rock near a dam and falling off the train during her selfie attempt. She was given immediate assistance by the medical staff at Hali Ela Railway Station, who then rushed her to Badulla Teaching Hospital. While she received emergency treatment there, she was pronounced dead later on.

According to Daily Mirror, Perminova arrived in Sri Lanka with other foreign travelers. She was reportedly from Saratov and was part of a security firm in Moscow.
