Flight makes emergency landing after a mouse jumps out in a passenger's meal

A flight from Oslo, Norway, to Málaga, Spain, was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Copenhagen, Denmark after a mouse crawled out of one passenger's meal.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) spokesperson Oystein Schmidt told AFP news agency that the decision for the emergency landing was "in line with company procedures as the furry stowaway posed a safety risk." This is also part of the airline's stringent regulations to protect the electrical wiring on board from rats.

"This is something that happens extremely rarely," Schmidt said.

He added, "We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again."

Nonetheless, a separate plane transported the passengers to Malaga.

In a Facebook post, one of the passengers, Jarle Borrested, posted about the incident that happened to the lady sitting next to her. This lady happened to be the passenger who experienced a mouse climbing up from her box of meals.

"Believe it or not. A lady next to me here at SAS Plus opened the food and jumped out a mouse. Now we have turned around and landed at CPH for flight change," he wrote in the caption.

In a separate interview with BBC, Borrested said that the situation didn't cause commotion and that people "were not stressed at all."

He even noted to the media outlet that the flight diversion only added a "few extra hours" to their supposed travel time.
