Alex Eala advances to Round of 16 in Ningbo Open after beating Diane Parry
Alex Eala has started her Ningbo Open campaign strong, beating France's Diane Pearry in straight sets.
The Filipina defeated her 24-year-old foe 6-3, 6-1 on Monday, Oct. 19 evening at the Yinzhou Tennis Center.
The first set began as a close fight, but after a 3-3 tie, Eala soon got the advantage and won the next three games.
Eala, world no. 20, would then dominate the second set, with Parry, world no. 32, winning only one game.

After the match, the Pinay advances to the Round of 16, where she'll face either Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva or Russia's Diana Shnaider.
Eala's latest victory marks an end to her slump. In Singapore, her campaign was cut short after she fell to Russia's Tatiana Prozorova. Meanwhile, in Wuhan, the Filipina bowed out after losing to China's Han Shi in the women's singles and to Anhelina Kalinina and Dayana Yastremska in the women's doubles alongside Zeynep Sonmez.
During the Asian Games, Eala finished with a bronze medal after falling to China's Wang Xiyu, but she said that she had no misgivings about falling short.
"At the end of the day, being a professional tennis player and a competitive tennis player, losing is part of the job and losing is always a possibility," Eala said.
