LTO suspends Angkas CEO George Royeca's license due to traffic incident in Cainta

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the driver’s license of George Royeca, chief operating officer and co-founder of ride-hailing app Angkas, over a traffic incident in Cainta, Rizal.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza initially told Teleradyo Serbisyo that they are revoking the driver's license for admitting that he organized the motorcade, but later clarified in a text message to GMA News Online that they are only suspending Royeca’s license for 90 days.

In the viral video, several Angkas riders were seen blocking the traffic at the intersection to give way for their convoy.

Mendoza noted that the Angkas chief took full responsibility for the incident. Meanwhile, other Angkas riders present were "under investigation" to determine their exact participation in the incident.

On Feb. 3, Royeca, who is seeking a House seat in the 2025 polls as the first nominee of the ANGKASANGGA party list, posted an apology video, saying he “deeply” regrets the incident, and that they are fully cooperating with the authorities.

"There are no excuses for our actions. This should not have happened," he said. "This is a failure to uphold discipline, safety, and compliance that Angkas has long stood for."

“Ako po ay nagpapakumbaba at humihingi ng taos-pusong paumanhin sa publiko, sa ating mga mananakay, sa kapwa motorista at mga awtoridad. As the leader of this organization, I should've done better, and I will do better," he added.

He also shared in his Feb. 10 Facebook post that they voluntarily went to the LTO to receive the show cause order and to surrender his driver’s license.

“As mentioned, I accept full responsibility. We take this matter seriously and respect due process,” he wrote in his Facebook post on Feb. 17. “Makakaasa po kayo na patuloy naming pagsisikapan na maibalik at mapatatag ang tiwala ng riding community,” he continued.
