NAIA now offers free internet connection that's 'faster, more convenient'

The new operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) announced that it has put up free Wi-Fi within its terminals that is touted to be "faster and more reliable."

In a statement on its website, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said it has partnered with both PLDT/Smart and Converge as Wi-Fi providers to ensure better coverage.

Passengers can now enjoy a "significantly increased" internet speed of 50-60 Mbps, with peak speeds reaching 115 Mbps. According to the company, an average of 1,000 users per hour connect to the "NewNAIA" Wi-Fi network across all terminals.

Access to the free internet has also expanded to three hours, eliminating the previous two-hour limit and the need to provide personal information.

"For air travelers, fast and reliable internet connectivity is a must," NNIC said. "Whether it’s for completing online travel requirements, accessing information, staying connected with loved ones, or simply browsing social media, good internet access is essential at any modern international airport."

The improved Wi-Fi access is just one of the changes NNIC brought to enhance the passenger experience at NAIA.

The company recently introduced higher parking rates that took effect on Oct. 1.

The car parking rate is worth P50 for the first two hours, from P40. It's P20 for motorcycles and P100 for buses.

Succeeding hours would mean an additional P25 (cars), P20 (motorcycles), and P50 (buses) per hour or a fraction thereof.

Meanwhile, the overnight parking rate for cars is now P1,200, from P300. It's P480 for motorcycles and P2,400 for buses.

"These adjustments are necessary to ensure continued maintenance and improvements to our facilities," the NNIC said.

"We are committed to providing a high level of service that meets the expectations of today’s travelers. In time, we hope to deliver on this promise across all aspects of NAIA operations," they added.

The company took over the airport’s operations on Sept. 14 after winning the bidding in February. Their contract is 15 years and can be extended to 10 more years.

The NNIC is expected to spend over P200 billion for the concession, including the P122.3 billion capital outlay, the P30 billion upfront payment, and the P2 billion fixed annual payment.

It’s also set to share 82.16% of its gross revenue with the government.
