More details on Bob Mackie's cause of death revealed
More details have emerged about the death of legendary fashion designer Bob Mackie.
Mackie died on Sept. 14 at 87 years old. His publicist initially confirmed in a statement that he died of pneumonia. However, his death certificate recently obtained by Us Weekly listed subarachnoid hemorrhage and blunt head trauma as his immediate cause of death.
Per Mayo Clinic, a subarachnoid hemorrhage is a type of stroke. It happens when there's "bleeding in the space between the brain and the tissues that cover the brain." Blunt trauma, meanwhile, is when "external forces on your body injure you," according to Cleveland Clinic.
The document showed that Mackie fell at the residence of his design director, Joseph McFate, on Sept. 11, and died after three days at Desert Regional Medical Center in California.
In a statement sent to Us Weekly, Mackie's representative said, “For clarification, Mr. Mackie was staying in the guest house at the home of his longtime Design Director, Joe McFate. A healthcare professional was with him when he fell. He was also suffering from pneumonia both before and after his hospitalization.”
Mackie was cremated on Sept. 17. His remains were “scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego County in California.”
With a clientele that included Cher, Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Pink, Marilyn Monroe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Zendaya, Mackie became known as the “Designer to the Stars." He earned nine Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, as well as three Oscar nominations. In 2002, he was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Hall of Fame.
