President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 based on his antigen test results, his press secretary announced on July 8.

In a press briefing, Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Marcos Jr. has "slight fever," but is "otherwise okay."

His son Ilocos Norte First District Rep. Sandro Marcos, meanwhile, tested negative. First Lady Liza Marcos and their two other sons Simon and Vinny were out of town and are not close contacts, the press secretary added.

Cruz-Angeles said she and Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez already tested negative, but other close contacts were told to self-monitor.

Close contacts include officials who took their oath of office before the president on July 7, like Bases Conversion and Development Authority head Delfin Lorenzana and Commission on Audit chairman Jose Calida.

Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said Marcos Jr. has to undergo a seven-day quarantine and once his symptoms are gone, he may resume face-to-face activities.

Marcos Jr. already contracted COVID-19 in 2020.
