Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of rape and sexual assault.

Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu, who is known for being a former member of K-pop group EXO, has been sentenced to 13 years in jail by a court in Beijing, China for rape.

According to the official WeChat account of the Chaoyang District People’s Court, Wu was found guilty of committing sexual offenses, including raping three women and organizing an orgy.

They found that between November to December 2020, Wu had forced himself onto "three drunken women who did not know how to resist or could not resist" in his own home. The Chinese court also found him guilty of gathering a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity in July 2018.

The pop star will be deported from China most likely after serving his jail sentence, as lawyers in China said that deportations usually happen after the prisoner serves their time.

Prior to this, Wu had already been detained in July last year after an 18-year-old Chinese student publicly accused him of inducing her and several other girls to have sex with him. Some of them were even below the age of 18.

In a separate case, the country's tax bureau also ordered him to pay a fine of 600 million Yuan (P4.7 billion) as he was found to have committed tax-related offenses such as hiding his personal income.

Wu gained prominence as a rapper and singer during his time as an EXO member. He left the band in 2014 to pursue a career as a solo singer.
