DOTr increases student discount on LRT, MRT rides from 20% to 50%
Good news, student commuters! The Department of Transportation has increased your fare discount on LRT and MRT from 20% to 50%.
The DOTr on Friday, June 20, officially implemented the said discount, which is applicable on all Metro Manila train lines: LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that the move aims to ease the financial burden on all students.
To avail of the discount, you would only need to present your valid school ID or proof of enrollment at the ticket counter.
In the new fare matrix on LRT-1, the minimum discounted fare for students is P10, and P28 for an end-to-end line from Dr. Abad Santos to Fernando Poe Jr. station.

On LRT-2, the minimum fare is P8 and P18 for travel from Recto Station to Antipolo Station.

Meanwhile, the minimum fare for student commuters on MRT-3 is P6. A maximum of P14 fare is applicable for an end-to-end line from Taft to North Avenue.

The expanded student discount can be enjoyed by all students, including those taking up postgraduate studies and those enrolled in law school.
Note though that this discount is applicable for Single Ticket Journey only, excluding Beep Cards and Stored Value Tickets.
This discount is effective every day, including weekends and holidays.
