Prince William speaks out on Harry and Meghan interview: ‘We are very much not a racist family’
Prince Willam is now the first member of the Royal Family to speak out and address the issues raised during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this week.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, March 11, the Duke of Cambridge said that he has not spoken to his brother Harry since the interview. He also said the Royal Family is “not a racist family.”
According to the Telegraph, William was caught by reporters while visiting a school in Stratford, east London with his wife Kate Middleton.
Sky News asked William if he had already spoken to Harry. William replied, “I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will do.”
William was then asked: “And can you just let me know, is the Royal family a racist family, Sir?”
He replied, “We are very much not a racist family.”
The response is a reaction to Meghan’s allegation during her interview with Oprah that the Royal Family had “concerns and conversations” about how dark the skin of her then-unborn son Archie’s might be when he’s born.
The Buckingham Palace responded to Harry and Meghan’s interview on Tuesday, March 9, saying that the whole family is “saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry Meghan.”
The statement added that the Royal Family finds “the issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.”
"Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members,” the statement ended.
In the interview, Harry said his relationship with his brother William “is space at the moment” "I love William to bits. He's my brother. We've been through hell together," Harry said. "But we are on different paths.”
He also said, “Time heals all things, hopefully."
