MRT-3, LRT-2 offer free rides for veterans and public this April
In celebration of the 83rd Day of Valor and Philippine Veterans Week, the Metro Rail Transit-3 and Light Rail Transit-2 announced they will offer free rides this April.
From April 5 to 11, Philippine veterans and a single companion can ride the LRT-2 and MRT-3 for free. To avail of this benefit, they must show their valid Philippine Veterans Office ID to the security personnel at the train station.
"Kinilala ng MRT-3 ang dakilang sakripisyo at kontribusyon ng mga beterano ng Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig sa ating bansa. Kaya naman po gaya noong mga nakaraang taon, nais muli nating pagpugayan at pasalamatan ang ating mga beterano sa darating na Philippine Veterans Week. Handog ng MRT-3 ang isang linggong libreng sakay sa kanila at isa nilang companion," MRT-3 General Manager Michael J. Capati said.
MRT-3 travels from 4:40 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the North Avenue Station, and 5:05 a.m. to 11:09 p.m. at the Taft Avenue Station.
Meanwhile, in observance of the Day of Valor, LRT-2 will provide complimentary train rides to all passengers on April 9, between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In 1989, former President Corazon Aquino's Proclamation No. 466 designated April 5-11 as Philippine Veterans Week. This week honors Filipino war veterans and all military personnel who defended the country.
The Day of Valor, on the other hand, is a regular holiday marking the sacrifice of American and Filipino soldiers in the Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March of World War II.
